What is roots air blower?
- Roots blower was invented by the American Roots brothers, so it is called Roots blower. The principle is a rotary high-pressure blower that uses two blade-shaped rotors to move relative to each other in the cylinder to compress and transport gas.
- How does a roots blower work?
- 1. Air suction: Roots blowers generates air flow through the rotation of the impeller. When the fan starts, the impeller starts to rotate and air enters the fan's inlet from the air inlet.
- 2. Air flow acceleration: After the air enters the fan, it is affected by the rotation of the impeller, and the air is forced to accelerate along the circumferential direction of the impeller.
- 3. Compression: As the air rotates in the impeller, the air is forced to move in the centrifugal direction, forming a high-pressure area.
- 4. Exhaust: After being compressed, the air is pushed to the outlet of the fan and discharged from the fan.
- To sum up, the Roots blower accelerates and compresses the air through the rotating impeller, and ultimately transports and discharges the air. Its working principle mainly relies on the centrifugal force and kinetic energy conversion generated by the rotation of the impeller. It should be noted that Roots blower does not belong to the traditional centrifugal structure of centrifugal fans, but is a variant of centrifugal fans.
Roots blower structure
Roots blower consists of five parts: casing, wall board, impeller, oil tank and muffler.
Casing: mainly plays the role of supporting (wall boards, impellers, mufflers) and fixing.
Wall board: mainly used to connect the casing and impeller, support the rotation of the impeller, and provide end-face sealing.
Impeller: It is the rotating part of the Roots blower, divided into two blades and three blades. However, due to the many advantages of three blades, such as smaller air pulsation, lower noise, and smoother operation than two blades, it has gradually replaced the two-blade Roots blower. 
Oil tank: Mainly used to store lubricating oil used to lubricate gears and bearings.
Muffler: used to reduce the noise caused by air flow pulsation when the Roots blower enters and exits.
